Cora Lee (Streeter) Stephenson was born September 6, 1947 in Pitt County, North Carolina to the late Johnny Streeter and the late Patience Rebecca Holden Cox. She gained her wings and flew to eternal rest on Tuesday, May 8, 2018.
Cora attended schools in the Winterville school District. She was a graduate of Robinson Union High School class of 1966. After graduating she lived in New Haven, Connecticut where she gave birth to her only child. She returned home to Greenville, NC. She later married Mr. Roosevelt “Juke” Stephenson. She resided in Greenville, NC until she was admitted to a rehabilitation center in Greensboro, NC in December of 2017 where she stayed until God called her home.
Cora was naturally a care giver. Not only did she care for her aging grandparents, mother, nieces, nephews, but she also worked as a certified nursing assistant in the health care field. She worked many years at Greenville Villa Nursing Home before going to Pitt Community College and obtaining a certificate in Health Unit Coordinator. This certification landed her a job at Pitt Memorial Hospital (Vidant Medical Center) where she continued to assist in the care of others and support the medical staff. Cora retired from Pitt Memorial Hospital (Vidant Medical Center) in 2010. Her desire to care for others extended into retirement as she kept several young children to help their mothers meet their career and education goals. Cooking was also one of her passions. She was a great cook and enjoyed preparing food for family and church events. She also enjoyed watching daytime soap operas and talking on the phone.
She was a dedicated member of Poplar Hill Free Will Baptist Church, Ayden NC, where she served as an Usher for over twenty years. She also served on the auxiliary board and as an assistant to the woman’s fellowship board.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Roosevelt “Juke” Stephenson, and her son Terrence Lamont Streeter.
She leaves to cherish her memory five sisters, Phyllis Barrett of Winterville, NC; Ruby Williams (Fred) of Winterville, NC; Dora Burton of Greenville, NC; Betty Jo Robbins of District Heights, Maryland; and Margaret Umphrey (Gollon) of Garner, NC. Six brothers.
