"But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thine ministry. For I am now ready to to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

II Timothy 4:5-8

We, the staff and management of Charles Edwards Funeral Home & Cremations, mourn with the Grimes family in the death of Elder Robert Glenn Grimes, age 65, of 1160 Benjaman Dr. Greenville, NC.

Robert Glenn Grimes entered into eternal peace on August 24, 2018. He was born in Pitt County on July 1, 1953 to the late Oscar Grimes Sr. and Rena Bridges-Grimes.

Robert graduated from D.H. Conley in 1973 and attended Pitt Community College. He could be described as dependable and trustworthy. Robert is known for his love of his big white diesel truck with Little’s Nursery written on the side. He worked at Little’s Nursery of Greenville, NC for 34 years. His love to work with his hands allowed him  to provide for his family.

Robert was a dedicated Deacon at St. Matthew True Born Church of Christ for several years, under the leadership of Bishop Stephen Jones. In 2011 he received his divine calling to ministry and delivered his initial sermon on June 11th at the Next Generation Church under the leadership of Dr. Tyrone Turnage.

Robert was a man of few words, however, when he was led to pray or minister, he was the definition of the scripture Psalm 100 which reads: “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. . Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

In 2001 Robert married his wife, Tammy Best Grimes, that he would refer to as “His carnation,”  Even though he left this earth a day before their 17th anniversary, he was a devoted and loving husband.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard Joyner and William Joyner.

Robert leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Tammy B. Grimes; four step-children, Aprilynn Clemons (Corey Sr.) of Greenville NC, Andrew Jenkins Jr. of Riverdale, Georgia, Jamal and Leon Tyson of Greenville, NC; four brothers, David Grimes, Fred Grimes (Melissa), Oscar Grimes Jr.( Marie), and John Bridges all of Greenville, NC; one sister, Shirley Stagger of Greenville, NC; four sisters-in-law, Darlene Williams, Charlene Best, Wendy Spruille (George) and Antoniette Gunter( Reco) all of Greenville, NC; seven step-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and family.

The family will be receiving friends at the residence, 1160 Benjaman Dr. Greenville NC.
